You must have either 100 paid non-union days or 30 paid union days (see below) in order to qualify for placement on the Producers Industry Experience Roster at Contract Services Administrative Trust Fund. If you have 100 paid non-union days they must have been earned within a two-year period. If you have 30 paid union days they must have been earned within a one-year period and on a non-union show that signed an IATSE agreement during production. Save any and all documentation proving that you were paid and had worked as a Script Supervisor or Teleprompter Operator.
Save your pay stubs. Personal checks from your employers will not suffice. It is also necessary to submit letters from the Producers to CSATF to verify that you had worked in the covered capacity. This in turn will also demonstrate that you have had enough paid experience as a Script Supervisor or Teleprompter Operator to qualify for membership into Local 871. For more information, click here.
Once you have all of your paperwork gathered up call CSATF at 818-565-0550 ext 1100 and ask to speak to a roster specialist in order to submit your paperwork.
You don’t necessarily need to have all of your days to begin the process with CSATF. If you only have a handful of days, they will start a file on you regardless. However, be mindful that your days will start to expire if not all earned within the one- or two-year time frame.
You will be required to make an appointment to fill out an application, I-9 form and to be tested for color-blindness. Please make sure to bring your passport, drivers license and social security card to your appointment. Once your days have been completely submitted, CSATF will send a letter to Local 871 signifying that you will be placed on the Roster. If your days are approved, you will be contacted by the Local via USPS notifying you that you are eligible to join Local 871.
Roster Placement Application Process and Requirements
You will be required to take several safety classes through CSATF in order for you to be able to work on Union productions as a Script Supervisor or Teleprompter Operator. Once you have completed those classes you will be issued a permanent safety passport. Please contact CSATF Safety Pass program at 818-847-0040 ext 1200 for more information.
